How do students become masterful authors? This session focusses on using academic vocabulary and text structure, with students in grades 4 – 6, to mediate the process of moving ideas from thoughts to writing on a page. We use illustrative samples from a 3 year action research project to focus on the research-informed, high-impact practices that produced tangible improvement in our students’ written literacy as they moved into non-fiction genres. You will leave this session with the keys to writing success that can be adapted to any writing program or writing assignment.
