"The greatest invention in the world is the mind of a child..." These powerful words by Thomas Edison speak to the brilliance, imagination and potential that children bring to the world! However, for children that struggle with mental illness (approximately 20-25%) things can be difficult; many emotions, misunderstandings, and behaviors can cloud their judgement and understanding and ours as they learn, develop and navigate their world. This session provides a general overview and basic understanding of some of the theories and key concepts in children's mental health, descriptions of some of the more common diagnoses, and some strategies for supporting these kids in our classrooms and communities.
