How a Deeper Understanding of Dyscalculia Can Benefit All Math Students

Dyscalculia is more than a specific type of learning disability in math. Students with dyscalculia often need support with making sense of numbers and math concepts in addition to, learning and memorizing basic number facts. They may know what to do in math class but don’t understand why they are doing it. This workshop will focus on five strategies to support all your math learners gain a better understanding of math sense by creatively using hands-on manipulatives. To conclude, we will engage in conversations around the similarities and differences between numeracy and mathematics.

Participant is encouraged to bring one of the following to the session: set of dominoes or pair of dice or a set of base-10 blocks.
